Sir Jim Ratcliffe has reportedly met with Graham Potter as pressure increases on Eric ten Hag at Manchester United.

The Dutchman saw his team lose in the Champions League on Tuesday night as Bayern Munich won 1-0 at Old Trafford after a Kingsley Coman goal.

Ten Hag has been unable to improve United’s chances this term, with the club losing 12 matches in all competitions.

Seven of these defeats have come in the Premier League, four of which have come in Europe. They were also knocked out of the Carabao Cup by Newcastle, despite winning the competition the previous season.

At present, United say that Ten Hag has their support.

Yet with Ratcliffe in line to buy a 25 per cent stake in the club, there is a possibility that will change.

The Sun says the INEOS chief has secretly met with Potter, who has been available since he was sacked by Chelsea at the beginning of the year.

The Englishman struggled during his brief tenure at Stamford Bridge.

However, before failing at Chelsea, he impressed in his stints in charge of Brighton and Swansea.

Ten Hag could lose his job if United lose to Liverpool on Sunday, the report says.

Jose Mourinho was sacked after a 3-1 defeat to the same team in 2018, with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer coming in as his replacement.

United lost 7–0 to Liverpool in the same match last season.

And with Jurgen Klopp’s side currently in the lead, the Red Devils face a huge battle to avoid another crushing defeat.

Ratcliffe is said to be a ‘huge fan’ of Potter while the INEOS chief waits to take over the reins at Old Trafford.

The British billionaire is set to take control of sporting affairs after agreeing to buy a 25 percent stake in the club.

Potter reportedly turned down the chance to manage Stoke following the recent departure of Alex Neil.

And he will return to management only when a ‘prime job’ becomes available.

Meanwhile, speaking after United’s Champions League exit to Bayern Munich earlier in the week, Ten Hag said he has ‘no regrets’ about their European campaign.

“Not sorry, no. We didn’t create it, but we have to accept it,” he said.

“We have to learn from it. We played some good football in the Champions League.

“We have to have confidence in the Premier League because we want to qualify for the Champions League again.”

On United’s poor results in the group stage, he said, “I look at our team and we had chances in games, in winning situations, we scored a lot of goals but we have to look at how we took it sometimes because of individual errors. Lost the cause, not because of any one.” Players but more players, not the same every time, so we gave the opponent a chance to come back.

“We had very good spells so we have to perform better but the fact is there are not enough points.

“We are disappointed as a group, I am disappointed as a manager.

“We should have done better.”

While United lost 7–0 to Liverpool at Anfield last season, they beat the Reds 2–1 at Old Trafford.

Marcus Rashford and Jadon Sancho scored, while Mohamed Salah scored a consolation goal for the Merseyside side.
