Darts commentator Wayne Mardle sarcastically mocked Luke Littler for his “nonsense” throw which ruined his chance in a nine-darter against Luke Humphreys, and the crowd was also disappointed.
The matches between Humphries and Littler have been exciting ever since the two met in the World Championship final.
Littler has since got the better of Humphreys on two occasions, including in the Darts Premier League season opener in Cardiff last week.
This time, however, the competition was much tougher, although Humphreys was at the top of his game.
Luke Littler smiles after missing nine-darter attempt
This was shown in the sixth leg when Humphries had already broken the throw up as both players started with 180s.
The world No. 1 failed to give himself a chance for a nine-darter after missing triple-20 on his fifth throw.
But Littler stepped up again and after hitting a triple-19 and two more triple-20s, scored 144 runs and gave himself a chance at his second nine-darter of the year.
Humphreys, however, put the pressure on himself with three more superb darts on his next visit and left himself the chance of a 10-dart leg.
However, Littler ended his run of six-perfect darts with an uncontrolled shot landing on five.
The crowd jeered Wayne Mardle and then jokingly commented on the comment: “This is absolute nonsense.”
This also proved costly as Humphreys managed to take a 4–2 lead on his next visit.
The teenage darts sensation soon leveled the match by winning the next two legs.
Luke Littler and Luke Humphries share a warm embrace after their match
This worked to Littler’s advantage as he kept the throws to himself for the deciding stage and both players clearly showed signs of nervousness when it mattered most.
Humphries left himself with 140, but missed the second triple-20 needed to give himself a chance of the finish.
Littler missed his favorite double-10 and needed only one try to wrap up the match and reach his first Premier League final.
Humphries showed her class by applauding Littler on stage before the two embraced.
