
Conditions that give rise to severe storms are becoming more common

Unstable atmospheric conditions suitable for hurricanes and occasionally tornadoes have increased throughout the Northern Hemisphere over the past 40 years. The discovery is one of the best signs yet that stronger hurricanes are occurring more frequently, as climate models predict — but it may not mean there will be more tornadoes.
