Google wasn’t exactly subtle in its teaser earlier this week, and now the company has confirmed that it’s launching both the Pixel 8 and 8 Pro in a new mint green color. The latest color option “Bay” Blue is slightly lighter than that of the 8 Pro. But if you’re a fan of the smaller regular Pixel 8, this is your first chance at a color beyond the pretty safe black, hazel and rose gold options that have been available since the phone debuted back in October.

For both phones, Mint is only available with the base 128GB storage. If you need more than that, you’ll have to stick with the basic colors. Google sent me a sample of the 8 Pro, and a pamphlet included in the package describes Mint as “inspired by the vibrant colors found in nature” and “a luminous hue that invites the mind into a state of energetic calm.” Has been done in. , Yes, there’s more. It’s “a color that’s equal parts courageous, focused, and optimistic for the new year and a refreshed version of you.” Correct. Whatever you say, Google design team.

Looking at it personally, courage is not the word that comes to mind. In most indoor lighting, mint may appear almost white. Throw some natural light on it and the color will pop a little more. It’s delicious, but if you were expecting a saturated seafoam green-type finish, this isn’t it. At least, it’s giving buyers more choices, with both Pixel 8 models now available in four different colors. I’ll be curious to see if the shiny glass on the smaller standard 8 makes the mint pop a little more than the matte 8 Pro.

Personally, blue is still not my favorite color Because It’s the most colorful – and that’s sorely lacking in a lot of “pro” smartphones these days. But if you prefer a minimalistic-looking option, mint is probably just the thing. Most phones inevitably find their way into the case anyway. (Google has already started work there.)

The mint Pixel 8 and 8 Pro will be available exclusively at the Google Store — carriers and retailers won’t carry them — and you can also buy either phone through Google Fi. American customers will be able to purchase the new color from January 25. In addition to releasing the new color, Google is also detailing the latest feature drop for its Pixel devices, which you can read more about here. Meanwhile, leaks for this year’s Google phones have already started.
