Delhi’s air begins to pant as AQI registers in ‘poor’ category before winter – Gudstory

Even before the arrival of winter season, Delhiites are facing problems due to poor air quality of the city. Delhi’s AQI was recorded at 207 at 4 pm on Monday evening.

The IMD on Monday said the national capital’s air quality is expected to improve on Tuesday and fall back to ‘poor category’ on Wednesday and Thursday.
A slight improvement in air quality was recorded in the national capital on Monday morning. At 9 am it was at 195. However, according to Central Pollution Control Board data, it reached the poor category as the 24-hour AQI was recorded at 207 at 4 pm. However, according to AccuWeather, its air quality further deteriorated to 218 ppm at 11:00 pm.

An AQI between 0-50 is considered “good”, between 51-100 “satisfactory”, between 101-200 “moderate”, between 201-300 “poor”, between 301-400 “very poor” and 401 Between -500 is considered “severe”. An AQI above 500 falls in the “severe plus” category.

The Meteorological Department has predicted generally cloudy sky and light rain on Tuesday. The maximum and minimum temperatures of the city will be around 31 and 20 degrees Celsius respectively.

Delhi Police to submit daily report on action taken against sale of firecrackers

Amid the deteriorating air quality situation in the national capital, Delhi Police has been asked to submit daily reports to the Pollution Control Board and the National Green Tribunal, PTI reported on Monday. Police have also been asked to intensify action against the sale and use of firecrackers.

To curb pollution in the city during winter, the Delhi government announced a complete ban on the sale, purchase and use of firecrackers till January 1 next year.

The news agency also reported that the licensing unit of Delhi Police has asked all 15 deputy commissioners of police, DCPs to make a plan to ensure that there is no sale and bursting of firecrackers in Delhi.
